I am very interested in the initiative. My husbanf suffers from chronic pain as a result of treatment for invasive head and neck cancer. His pain while never controlled is really only the problem. He suffers from depression and anxiety b/c of the difficulty he faces each month due to federal regulation of CII’s and the attitudes of pharmacists and physicians. He has been accused of being a drug seeker, lazy, and weak. He is a prof engineer and works full-time. The meds just make it bearable. As a pharmacist and a faculty member I am saddened by the attitudes of those who claim to care.

I will be unable to attend the Summit, I am actually teaching a class for the Palliative Care Elective we started this year for our 3rd year pharmacy students. I am very interested in providing assistance or working with any of the groups regarding the education of pain management & palliative care to students. Since this is the first year of my course I am willing to share and discuss with others development of curriculum in this area.

in order to effectively train the students, we need to be sure we’ve ‘trained the trainer’ – there aren’t too many pharmacists involved in chronic non-malignant pain mgmt and/or palliative care (inpt and outpt settings) – would like to have more resources/workshops available and affordable – and pharmacy focused!

would like to see the students/practitioners trained or at least, better exposed to, comorbid chronic pain/addiction issues & mgmt, comorbid chronic pain and psychiatric disorders/suicide, and also a better awareness and understanding of psychosocial issues surrounding the chronic non-malignant pain and the palliative care/hospice groups of patients – and again, how to manage these issues in a clinical setting.
