This is the official Web site for the Strategic Planning Summit for the Advancement of Pain and Palliative Care Pharmacy.
This working summit, held at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE), formally addresses the facets of pharmacist education on pain and palliative care across the professional continuum. Our efforts from the summit will continue on this Web site, fostering ongoing collaboration and the exchange of new ideas.
Our commitment to facilitating change in a meaningful manner focuses on continual education, spanning a pharmacist’s professional degree program, postgraduate training such as residency and fellowship, as well as professional development throughout his or her career.
The Strategic Planning Summit for the Advancement of Pain and Palliative Care Pharmacy was designed based on the National Pain and Palliative Care Summit held in 2003 at The Ohio State University. There, a group of pharmacists with interest and expertise in pain and palliative care determined the need for a profession-specific summit in which participants address short-comings in training and assessment and share details about successful programs.
The SIUE School of Pharmacy established this summit to pick up where the Ohio State project left off. We’ve invited top experts in our fields to work together to improve and impact the attitude, knowledge and skills of pain and palliative care across the professional continuum of pharmacy.
We appreciate the support of the Mayday Fund, a foundation that shares our passion and dedication to helping those who suffer from pain and its associated symptoms. Without their generous support, the summit and this Web site would not have been possible.
Welcome to the conversation on education for pharmacists on pain and palliative care. We look forward to the collaboration.
